You know doesn’t care about masks or social distancing? Homeless people. Those who are out of work. Those who are desperate for help.

John, standing outside the Southport Chick-fil-A, and Isa, his five year old daughter, sitting on a cooler next to him, don’t care about whether you wear a mask or whether you choose to be socially distant. In fact, I would bet they prefer that you DON’T distance yourself from them.

How should a Christian respond to a father and daughter standing on a corner in the middle of a hot day, holding a sign saying that they’ve fallen on hard times?

I don’t know.

I don’t know the right answer, but I know that if it was MY husband and MY daughter, I would hope someone would stop. I would hope someone would hand them some food and a few large cups of water. I would hope someone would NOT be distant, but rather that they would step into their situation for just a moment, let them know they are cared for, and assure them of God’s loving care for them.

I don’t always know what God has for me each day, but today it was definitely for me to show love for that family on the corner.

Christians, be extra diligent to listen to the Lord’s prodding in a time like this. Many people are out of work. Many people have lost their homes. Many people do not have childcare.

Many people need Jesus, and we are called to be His hands and feet. Let’s show them Jesus.
